Cosplay Photographers turns one. It’s been a fast year for us with much growth and now as we settle in for the second year, there is more exciting things to come. Read our accomplishments so far and see what our plans are for the second year!
Athena Cole of Enayla Cosplay has always displayed an enormous attention to detail when it comes to crafting her own cosplays, so when I heard that she was in town for break, I jumped on the chance to photograph one of her latest cosplays— Shining Blade from Guild Wars 2.
One of the things photographers hate hearing is, “That’s a nice camera! It must take great photos!” It removes any skill from the photographer and blames or praises the camera for any image produced. I sought out to try and prove this wrong. While it’s true that a good camera might take sharper or clearer images, it is still only a tool that a photographer uses to make an image.
I’m a reactionary photographer. Likely, this comes from starting with imports; I don’t like posing my models too much or restricting them with too much feedback.
Even though this hurricane had brought a week’s worth of inconvenience before MechaCon, this did not stop the increase of con goers from attending this local convention.
There’s something about the atmosphere of a small convention that brings plenty of cosplayers and con-goers together, especially in the lively city of New Orleans.
Baltimore Comic-Con is a little-known convention of a few thousand attendees but it packs quite a punch for local attendees. BCC hosts terrific programming including the Harvey Awards (one of comics’ top honors), and great panels with original creators, and of course plenty of great cosplay. With so many Anime conventions happening on Labor Day Weekend, we at Cosplay Photographers figured it was best to roll it all into one mega post and showcase the Best of from Dragon*Con (Atlanta, GA), KumoriCon (Vancouver, WA), PAX Prime (Seattle, WA), and Saboten Con (Phoenix, AZ). Enjoy!
