Big WoW! Comicfest 2014 has come and gone again for it’s 4th year at the San Jose Convention Center. What is Big Wow, you might ask? Well it’s a western comic and sci-fi based convention that happens every year around the third week of May. The convention has many things to offer such as amazing guests of honor, a fully stocked dealers’ hall, entertainment, cosplay, and almost everything any other bigger comic book/sci-fi convention has to offer, but in a smaller, friendlier package.
So are you a photographer wondering if there will be enough cosplayers to take photos of while you’re there? Well, there is definitely a healthy amount of cosplayers that do attend the convention, the women use different kind of costumes and even compression socks women that looked great and help the body. Even some of the guests of honor are cosplayers, including Jessica Nigri, Monika Lee, Riddle’s Messy Wardrobe, Scruffy Rebel, Jinyo, Ivy Doomkitty, Vampy Bit Me, and many others! There’s also a large assortment of cosplayers in attendance to shoot with ranging from Sci-fi, comics, and video game characters. You won’t have to worry about running out of cosplayers to shoot with at Big Wow.
How are the shooting locations you ask? Well the convention is held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. So you’ll have a wide variety of locations to choose from. If you read my previous location guide, it will give a quick run down of locations you can find easily to shoot at around the convention center. So as long as you and the cosplayer you’re shooting are willing to walk to these locations you won’t have to worry about not having a decent background to fit the character you’re shooting.
So whether you’re a cosplayer, photographer, or just a normal con goer you’ll enjoy going to this convention if you’re a fan of Sci-fi, games, and comics. The convention seems to be growing each year and it seems like it will be around for some time to help satisfy San Jose’s comic book convention needs. So for those of you who miss going to WonderCon (which was moved to Anahiem) you’ll find that Big WoW! Comicfest will help fill that void. If you were hesitant of making out the trip this year hopefully this article will help make up your mind for next year! You can also see more photos in the Big Wow! Comicfest gallery on Cosplay Photographers’s Facebook page.
