Exclusive Battle Bunny Riven (League of Legends) Photo Shoot with Zerina Cosplay
Zerina Cosplay is best known as THE quintessential Diablo 3 Monk cosplayer, but she also manages to find time in her busy schedule to do many other amazing cosplays based on some of her favorite characters. This time she shows us a fan favorite, Battle Bunny Riven, based on Riot Games‘ popular multiplayer online battle arena game (MOBA), League of Legends.
Despite working practically next door to each other, Zerina Cosplay and I don’t get to shoot together very often. Our hectic schedules never seem to line up! Even this shoot had to be postponed twice and almost a third time due to rain up until 2 hours before we were scheduled to shoot. Readers get another special treat this time as I invited Kim Williams, a.k.a. ChillyWillyTube of Cosplay Videographers, to do a special featurette and some behind-the-scenes footage of me in action. (Because I know that’s what you’re all really here for, right?)
The game is played on a map consisting of lanes intermixed with jungle areas, foliage, and varying terrain. I found a park nearby that had these elements which I used for a previous fashion shoot. While Riven the Exile is a heavily armored warrior, Battle Bunny Riven is the pinup-esque skin of the character. (Nothing like getting beat down by a girl with bunny ears and a fuzzy tail. It hurts so good!) So that’s the mood and theme I was going for on this shoot. She’s still lane-ing and jungling here, but she is definitely staying true to her pin-up form.
The Technical Stuff
From a technical perspective, this was a pretty simple shoot. All lighting was from one Canon 580EX II speedlight in a 16″x16″ softbox triggered using my new Phottix Odin wireless remotes. At one point, I had Kim carrying the softbox stand and walking with me so I could capture some “in-motion” walking shots. The benefit of these triggers is that they do E-TTL metering to give a proper exposure automagically. This was useful when doing something like the walking shot above because the power output would need to be changed depending on how fast she walked versus how fast Kim Williams can walk backwards carrying a lightstand.

As always, thanks for checking out the photos! Feel free to send me a message on facebook if you have any questions or comments.
