Anime North 2012 Convention Report by Ray Lum

Anime North, Canada’s largest anime convention and one of the top ten in attendance North America was held on May 25th through 27th, the same weekend as Fanime. The attendance was capped at 20,000 weekend passes, but the convention grounds were still packed. This year, Anime North was held at the Toronto Congress Centre and Doubletree International Plaza Hotel. Cosplay Photographer’s Ambassador, Ray Lum, was on site and gives us his take on the convention.

The creativity of others on display at anime conventions has always amused and amazed me; from Pikachu RPG style armor to a huge Blue-Eyes White Dragon (both of which are not in my deviantArt yet). Other great Cosplays on display were Danny Choo’s Mascot Mirai Suenaga, Charlotte from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, SuperGirl, Rokusho from Medabots, Sakura from Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, Esther from Trinity Blood.

As is the case with most solo photographers, I missed out on a lot more awesome cosplays due to scheduled photoshoots. Here’s a few preview shots:

This year’s Anime North was simply Magical girls everywhere! There seemed to be a lot of Puella Magi Madoka Magica Cosplayers (If you haven’t seen it yet, you should…it’s an interesting take on magical girl animes!) It has lead to my favorite shots from my DeviantArt:

As Anime North is in my hometown of Toronto, I’ll definitely be back next year for photos and fun!

Ray Lum is The Canadian Ambassador because we have to have at least one :P Based in Toronto, Canada, he is better known for his glamour photography but he shoots cosplay for more creative concepts.
