2012 - MegaCon

MegaCon 2012 Convention Report

MegaCon is an annual three-day convention held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL during the earlier parts of the year. The very first and most rewarding part of this convention, at least for those who live further north, is the wonderful weather of Florida. During a time when other areas of the country are plagued with snow, this convention had great and beautiful weather this year in the mid-70s! There were a few storms to roll through the region during the event which gave us some amazing backdrops for photos.

This convention offers a different mix of people than you would normally see at your usual Anime convention. MegaCon is much more broad in the audience it attracts, including tv series, movies, sci-fi, comics, gaming, and more. From this, there is a far more diverse group of nerd culture to all come together for a single weekend then you’ll see just about anywhere else.

With this being my very first Florida convention, it was all about meeting new people! Cosplay Videographer Ackson found out that I planned to attend MegaCon 2012, so he introduced me online to Sammy and Taylor. After seeing them featured in Ackson’s MegaCon 2011 videos, it was a nice honor to get a chance to meet them in person and work with them. In addition to these two, it was also great to meet up with friends Sasha and Maboroshi. Being the “n00blet” to the Florida scene, it was nice having these four locals guide me around to locations and events during the weekend.
